Gifts for the Home Cook
If you’re like me, you just LOVE gifts under the tree that have something – anything – to do with cooking. So this holiday season, if you’re looking for something for that certain someone with a knack for the culinary arts, I have some great ideas for you. These are items that I really do own and use. Things that have made my life in the kitchen just a little bit better.
If you know me, you know that my VERY favorite thing in my kitchen is my food processor. It’s a 14 cup Cuisinart that I bought for myself WAY too late in life. It’s truly my favorite kitchen item. I love the sound of its purring engine. I love the sound of the top snapping shut. I even love cleaning it. Really I do. But gentleman beware — remember the GOLDEN RULE OF GIFT GIVING WHEN BUYING FOR A WOMAN – Never, and I mean NEVER, give her anything with a power cord attached. ‘Nuf said….
So here are my gift suggestions and stocking-stuffer ideas for that special home cook in your life.
Luxardo Cherries – Once you taste these in your favorite cocktail, you’ll never buy anything else. Totally worth the price. www.amazon.com
Cassina Rosa Truffle Salt – Turns a regular dish into a fabulous dish. Try it on pasta, eggs or mac ‘n cheese. www.amazon.com
Rosle Garlic Press – They told me not to buy the cheaper one, but did I listen? Of course not. After the cheap one broke, I went back to my old standby. www.williamssonoma.com
Norpro 6 Cup Egg Poacher – An absolute must-have if you love eggs. I hate to admit it, but I’ve never been so good at the old fashioned poaching method of stirring the egg in the water…so if you know someone like that, buy this. www.amazon.com
Soda Stream – Take a look at this little beauty. [You don’t have to use the soda syrup it comes with.] I make my own sparkling water. Or try adding a little fresh citrus juice. Yum. www.coolhunting.com
And three more things I love, but don’t own – YET.
Ipad Holder and Speaker – I WANT THIS SANTA! http://www.williams-sonoma.com/products/williams-sonoma-smart-tools-ipad-sets/
Stemless, Double-walled Martini Glasses. For that thoroughly modern gift. www.touchofmodern.com
Chalkboard Menu – This is actually homemade, so if you’re so inclined, check out how to make one here. It’s pretty fabulous and not too hard to do. www.whipperberry.com
